Optometric Reception

We require an Optometric Receptionist to join our team working part time (24-26 hours per week). The ideal applicant will possess excellent time management skills, a positive friendly demeanor, be well organized and have outstanding communication skills.  We are looking for a person with a professional appearance who is detail oriented and able to multi-task. The ideal candidate must also be a self-starter, punctual and available to work a couple of evenings (to 6:00pm) per week and at least every other Saturday.

 Duties:

 The receptionist's role is critical, since this person provides the first impression for patients coming into our practice, especially when patients may be apprehensive about health issues. The effective receptionist must able to respond to the needs of the patients and interface with other optometric staff and doctors efficiently and calmly.

 Main responsibilities:

           Patient registration and checking in and checking out all patients

           Answering/ directing all calls and e-mail requests for appointments

           Booking and maintaining appointments/recall schedules for 4 doctors

           Billing patients and collecting fees.

           Patient file management and data entry (patient demographics and information accurately into practice management and EMR systems.

           Chart preparation, organization and management.

           Providing patients with product and service information

           Educating patients on products offered by Northumberland Optometry Centre

           Perform other duties as assigned

 You must be able to adapt and change to an environment with ever-changing technologies, procedures, and maintain the highest standard of best practices

 Job Qualifications/Experience and Skills:

 Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Certificate of Medical Office Assistant/Receptionist considered an asset. Preference will be given to those having their certification as MOA. Must have own transportation and be able to work in both practice’s locations of Cobourg and Port Hope. Previous experience of working in Optometric/ Ophthalmic field will be a high asset. Preference will be given to those who have worked in this field or in an optometric office previously. Must have general computer use skills and be familiar with MS Windows and Office.
